Your Status Wallet settings show all the accounts you have created and imported into your Wallet. The Status app groups these accounts based on their origin and type, helping you understand which accounts you own and how you created them.
When you create your Status profile, Status generates a unique master key. This master key derives from your recovery phrase and is used to create your first Wallet account.
If you create a new Wallet account, Status uses the master key associated with your Status profile by default. You can change the account origin to an existing recovery phrase, private key or a new master key.
A master key in your Wallet can control multiple accounts, each linked to a recovery phrase. Importing a recovery phrase restores all accounts created under that master key.
If you import an account using a private key, that account is separate from your profile master key. It is not linked to any recovery phrase, meaning you must back up the private key separately.
tip
Think of your master key as a keychain with multiple keys (accounts). You can use the default keychain, create a new one, or use an old one (recovery phrase). Adding a private key is like carrying a standalone key in your pocket, independent of the keychain.
The illustration below shows an example of different account origins in the Status Wallet settings. Depending on your Wallet, you may have one or more of these origins. To open your Wallet settings:
In the mobile app, tap your profile picture in the top left corner of the app, then tap
Wallet
>
Key pairs and accounts
.
In the desktop app, from the navigation sidebar, go to
Settings
>
Wallet
.
These are the Wallet accounts from your profile master key. All the accounts in this group are protected by the same recovery phrase, the one you used to create your Status profile.
info
In addition to these accounts, you can add watch-only accounts to monitor the balance and transactions of an external account.
For each account origin, you can see its location under the origin name. Your device or Keycard (this is denoted with the Keycard symbol) stores the account.
