Migrate from Status Legacy to Unified Status Mobile App

If you’re currently using the Clojure-based Legacy Status Mobile app, now is a great time to switch to the new unified Status Mobile app (referred to as Status Mobile app in this article). All ongoing improvements, new features, and performance updates will be delivered in the new app going forward.

You can install the new Status Mobile app alongside your Legacy Status Mobile app and migrate your existing Status profiles. See the “Migrating Data from Status Legacy to Status” section below for step-by-step instructions.

The Status Mobile app is now available for download on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, with F-Droid coming soon.

Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.status.mobile

Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/status-privacy-super-app/id6754166924

Note: The iOS app has the SWAP, Bridge, and Buy Crypto features disabled in this release to ensure it passes App Store review. The team plans to restore these features in an upcoming release.

F-Droid: The development team is currently working on merging Status Mobile app release v2.36 into the F-Droid repository. Progress can be tracked here: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/merge_requests/32193

The Status Mobile App will be released on F-Droid once the merge is successful.

The Status Mobile app will move from the open testing track to the production release track on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store with the next planned release (v2.37), expected in February 2026.

This version already includes many of the features already available on Status Desktop, such as:

  • Manage your communities (for community owners)
  • Translations (Settings → Language & Currency → Language) – currently supports English, Korean, and Czech, with more languages coming soon.
  • Payment requests in Chat (click on “+” to the left of the chat input → Add payment request) – set up and send your payment requests directly via chat.
  • Sticker store (click on the Sticker icon — the last one in the chat input to the left) – go and grab your cool stickers, with free packs available.
  • Ethereum Name Service (ENS) usernames – you can attach your ENS name that you already own to your Status profile or get a new one.
  • Website link and GIF previews – see previews for links and GIFs.
  • Manage text size (Settings → Appearance → Text Size) – increase or decrease text size across the app.
  • Sent, pending, and dismissed contact requests (Settings → Messaging → Pending/Dismissed requests) – see your sent pending contact requests.
  • Mark a contact as untrusted.
  • Chat list search.
  • Search in a chat.
  • Mark message as unread.
  • Asset detail view.
  • Sorting assets.
  • Activity/transaction history for all accounts view.
  • Add a new wallet account through importing your private key.
  • Search message content in communities.
  • Mute community category.
  • Clear community channel history.
  • Show the number of missed messages since X days in chats and community channels.
  • User profile showcase: accounts, collectibles, web links.

And more.

Known Limitations of Release v2.36

  • UI/UX Adaptation: The team is gradually evolving the Status mobile app toward a more mobile-native look and feel. While the main user flows are functional, some may still be blocked or imperfect. Please report any issues on GitHub (after checking for duplicates). It is an ongoing work over several releases.
    • Note:
      • if the text size appears too small on your device, go to Settings → Appearance → Text Size to adjust it.
      • if you are looking for more spacious or compact app interface, go to Settings → Appearance → Layout Spacing to adjust it.
  • Keycard Support: is under development and planned in v2.37.
  • Push Notifications: is under development and planned in v2.37.
  • Connect to dApps: is under development and planned in v2.37.

You can migrate your Status profile from Status Legacy to Status in two secure and private ways:

Requirements:

• Update your Status Legacy app to v2.34.4
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=im.status.ethereum
Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/status-ethereum-crypto-wallet/id1178893006
F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/im.status.ethereum

• No recovery phrase required.

For iOS users: update your Status Desktop app to v2.36 or greater.

Status Desktop: https://status.app

Security and privacy of Status syncing:

• End-to-end encrypted using your profile private key.

• Pairing occurs only via your local network.

Migration steps:

  1. 1
  2. 2
Go to Settings → Syncing and Backup → Paired Devices.
  3. 3
