The Status app is currently in its beta stage. This means the application is still undergoing active development, and certain features described in this document may function differently or be unavailable within the app.

Status is an open-source, decentralized crypto communication super app. With Status, you can complete various activities such as messaging your contacts, interacting with people in Status Communities, managing crypto assets and exploring dApps.

If you run Status for the first time, you start with creating a profile.

There's no need for any personally identifiable information (like your email or phone number) to create a Status profile. Instead, the Status app generates a public and a private cryptographic keys (a key pair) for authentication and authorization.

Your private key is associated with a recovery phrase. If you lose or damage your device, you can restore access to your Status data and wallet funds using your recovery phrase on a new device. To secure your profile, back up and secure your recovery phrase as soon as you can.

A Status Community is a place where you can connect and communicate with people who share your interests. In Communities, you can explore Status Communities that fit your passions and create your own community.

There are different types of communities. For example, token-gated communities require you to hold specific tokens to join. Public communities are those listed in the Discover section, and SNT holders can start a vote to decide if the community is private or public.

When using a web browser, you can switch between services by selecting the corresponding tabs. Similarly, in Status, selecting the

Jump to
option at the bottom of the screen brings you to your recent activities in tabs. From there, you can jump from a chat with a friend to your wallet account without having to navigate your way back.

In Status, there are a range of options to personalize your experience.

Choose an avatar and colour that best represent you. If you prefer using multiple identities, create additional Status profiles. Beyond that, customize your wallet accounts with emojis, and give your group chats and communities their unique look with images and colours.

If you run a Status community, you can target specific audiences and set up member permissions using tokens.

With the many contacts, group chats, and communities, you can view all types of notifications in the notification centre and customize your notifications to only receive important ones.

Any Status user can see your profile including your profile picture, it's crucial to safeguard your personal details. Consider customizing your profile to reveal less information to those you don't know well.

You can quickly learn your relationship with a Status user by labelling their profile. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable, you can block the user or mark the user as untrusted. To make sure your contact is genuine, you can verify the user's identity or mark the user as identity verified.

Status Wallet is a self-custodial wallet where you have complete control over your cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. This means that you're fully responsible for the security of your assets, including the private key protecting them. Always keep your credentials safe and protect yourself from scams.

At the same time, you can choose to use Status with Keycard to store private keys offline in an air-gapped environment.
